Just like with anything, beards come in various shapes, sizes, and styles. It depends on the shape of your face as to be able to figure out which is the right type of beard for you.
The Full Beard – This is the king of all the beards. If you are able to grow a full beard then it is highly recommended that you do so. Some men are not able to grow a full beard or can’t pull it off due to the shape of their face. But this is the manliest beard you can get and it also the most awesome. It is thick, burley, and truly amazing.
The Goatee –The goatee is the little brother of the full beard. You want facial hair to hide your baby face but can’t commit to a full beard. Maybe you’re experimenting in college with facial hair or want to look like Shakespeare and be able to stroke your goatee while in deep thought.
Mutton Chops – This is an awesome look that is definitely making a comeback these days. The mutton chop beard is basically when you grow your sideburns long enough to connect to your moustache. The sideburns are typically thick and appear as though it could be a beard. Watch out for those sideburns, they are trying to fool you!
Barely There – These are the beards that we love to hate. They are pencil thin (aka the chin strap) and take way too much time to groom. If you are going to grow one of these beards you may as well not grow one at all. These are also sometimes called designer beards or”sexy stubble.”You are not saving any time by having to get up super early and groom your skinny beard. Get over yourself, get a real beard!
Picking a Beard Style for Your Face
Believe it or not picking a beard style for your face is not always easy. Depending on the shape of your face, one type of beard could look amazing while the other one is a complete bust. Whether your face is round, long, skinny, or short, there are beard styles that will bring out the best in your face.
The Round Face – If you have a round face there are certain styles that simply work better for you. You are going to want to have more of a chin beard than anything else and do not grow bushy sideburns. Round-faced men tend to look better with goatees as opposed to beards.
The Long Face – This is going to be just the opposite of what we talked about round faces. If you have a longer face you should make sure your beard is fuller out on the side of your face and shorter around your chin area. This gives you a bit of width so your face won’t look as long. Not that there is anything wrong with a long face!
The Square Face – This is another instance where you should try and grow a goatee as opposed to a full beard. You are going to want it to be shorter on the side and long in the front. The best idea is to go with a goatee or a long chin beard.
The Large Face – You are going to want to grow a full beard if you have a larger face. Anything that you grow that is thin or small will look out of sorts. Make sure your beard is full as well as your mustache.
The Small Face – Small face equals small amounts of facial hair. Do not overdo it with the full beard style. It simply will not work for your type of face. The beard will not be in proportion with the rest of your face and it just will not work.
The Oval Face – If your head is oval-shaped then you are the luckiest man alive. Apparently this is the best shape to have in order to grow an impeccable beard. There is no need to shape or groom just let it grow and it is going to look great.
